Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University continues its Regional Development Focused Livestock Projects with the concept of 'From Universal Knowledge to Social Contribution' without slowing down. In this context, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar met with veterinarians.
The meeting held in the Rectorate Senate Room was attended by Burdur Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons President Kazım Üstüner, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hakan Öner, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çağrı Karakurum, Chief Physician of MAKÜ Animal Hospital Prof. Dr. Reha Ağaoğlu, and many veterinarians.
Stating that they continue their efforts to add value to the country in the field of livestock, Rector Dalgar emphasized that they came together to exchange ideas on what can be done with veterinarians, who are the most important stakeholders in the studies. Rector Dalgar continued his words as follows:

“Our Aim is to Offer the Facilities of Our Animal Hospital to Our Breeders Through Veterinarians”
“We need to work hard in the field of agriculture and livestock. It is essential to use agricultural technologies. The world is moving in this direction, and serious studies are being conducted on this subject. We are also making efforts to develop domestic and national technologies in the field of agriculture and livestock. Our efforts in this regard continue. There are studies that we need to carry out jointly with you in the field. At this point, again, due to our specialization as a university in the field of livestock, we have modernized and made our university's farms operational. We had studies related to embryo transfer, which we believe can save Turkey from animal imports. We have had many meetings about this. As a result of these, currently, there is a move towards a change in legislation at the ministry, and if these changes occur, we will have many tasks that we can do with you in the field. You know our university's animal hospital. We have a very good infrastructure here. We do our best to ensure that our students receive their clinical training in the best way possible. However, we do not want to be content with this. We want all stakeholders in the livestock sector in Burdur to benefit from the facilities, opportunities, and technology of the hospital. The more cases that come to our hospital, the more examples our students see, and this increases the quality of education. We want our students to see more farms, more cases, and receive more qualified education. We are doing our best for this. We cannot provide enough service to our breeders in Burdur. We cannot operate at full capacity. We are thinking about how to revitalize this place. We are on the academic side of the business. Can we be a solution partner with you, esteemed veterinarians, who work day and night? Can we contribute to increasing the quality of service in the field? When we thought about this, an idea emerged. Our university has the capacity and infrastructure to go and pick up large animals from the farm, village, and bring them, and then return them after treatment. This is not available in many universities. Besides, there is a lot of infrastructure, technology, and operating rooms from laboratory analyses to imaging devices. We want our veterinarians who travel in the field to use all the facilities of our hospital. We want you to be our solution partner. Thus, again in the field, I believe that if I were a breeder, if the veterinarian I work with offered me such a service at critical times, saying I have a special agreement with the university, there is also a treatment opportunity, I would give extra points. Because sometimes there are points where on-site treatment is not sufficient. We are a public institution, we have no commercial thought. Our thought is to confront our students with as many cases as possible. Our aim is to offer the infrastructure, this capacity, and opportunity of our hospital to the breeders we can reach in Burdur and the nearby region, and to do this through you. I thank you all for your participation.”
Burdur Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons President Kazım Üstüner expressed his satisfaction with the meeting and said, “I thank all our doctors who participated in this meeting where we came together to create a common mind. While exchanging information on how we can make Burdur and surrounding provinces benefit more from the facilities of our animal hospital, such a meeting was organized. Opening the facilities of our university to doctors is a very appropriate decision. If we can increase the quality of service in the livestock of our province, I think the country's livestock sector and our profession will gain great benefits.”
Later, Chief Physician of the Animal Hospital Prof. Dr. Reha Ağaoğlu gave an informative speech about the hospital. The meeting ended after discussing the requests and suggestions from the veterinarians.
